A former Coeur d'Alene business owner was recently arrested on sexual assault charges and is under investigation for other similar charges.

A Friday press release said that in 2020, the Coeur d’Alene Police Department investigated a report of sexual assault involving a local tattoo studio.

"At that time, the case could not move forward because the allegation could not be substantiated," the release said.

Detectives recently learned that Daniel Hansen, 63, who operated a tattoo studio in Coeur d’Alene, was arrested in Mesa County, Colo., on sexual assault charges.

Hansen was known locally in the tattoo community as “Daemon Cusco” and previously as “Popeye," the release said.

CDAPD is working with the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to re-examine the 2020 case. Investigators believe there may be additional victims of Hansen between October 2020 and May 2026.

Anyone with information or who believes they may have been a victim is urged to contact Detective Knisley at (208) 666-5739 or [email protected].
