Sandy went home to see Jesus on May 29, resting peacefully at home after being diagnosed with ALS about a year ago, and she was happy to go.

Born on April 12, 1947, to Wallace W. Plachetka and Allene E. (Hanson) Plachetka in Milwaukee, Wis. She lived in California, Arizona and New Mexico before settling in Amarillo, Texas.

Between her freshman and sophomore years at Amarillo College, Sandy spent one year in Overhalla, Norway, and has always treasured the memories. She returned to study elementary education and later information technology at Texas A&M. She moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1988 when Atmos Energy Corp moved its corporate offices there. She retired after 24 years as corporate telecommunications manager. She moved to Post Falls, Idaho, in 2007, immediately following retirement, where she enjoyed travel and many outdoor activities.

She moved to Coeur d'Alene a couple of years ago to downsize.

Sandy was a very busy woman; she attended Fellowship Bible Church in Post Falls and volunteered at the Post Falls Library's Twice Told Tales Bookstore. She was an Elections judge for many years and served as the superintendent of both Home Arts buildings for the Fair. She belonged to the Washington State Quilters Guild and held Tuesday morning and Thursday evening Bible Studies.

Her only surviving family member is Justin Sewell of Komo, Texas. Still, Sandy was surrounded by a strong and loving group of women from her church, Bible studies and other pursuits.

Special thanks to Sheree Portner, who stayed with her the last several weeks of her life, and Denise Butzer, who, with Sheree, made up the three musketeers of quilting lore. Karen and Mel, who were always there to help out; Janice, for dog and mail duty; Jenny, who stepped in as needed; and many others who just loved her and helped every way they could. Also, to Debbie Andrews, who not only supported Sandy in many ways but was able to boss her around when needed. Many thanks to Crest Home Health and Hospice for their support.

Sandy was a strong, faith-filled woman who was a blessing to many. A memorial service will be held June 28, 3:30 p.m. at Fellowship Bible Church, 1220 N. Idaho St., Post Falls, ID 83854.
