The Kootenai River Bridge on U.S., located about one-half mile northwest of Troy, will be temporarily closed from 11:30 p.m. Monday, June 8 to to 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 9.

According to the Montana Department of Transportaion, this is the first in a series of seven additional nighttime closures to repair the bridge.

The dates and times of all future closures will be communicated via variable message signs positioned throughout the area. The public can also sign up for text alerts and informational emails communicating future closure dates if desired.

For text alerts, text “Kootenai” to 406-384-9823. For email alerts, email “Kootenai” to [email protected].

These closures are part of an ongoing repair project by MDOT and Frontier West to replace existing  expansion rocker bearings on piers 3 and 6 of the bridge, in addition to minor repairs to the driving surface and bridge deck.

During each closure, the bridge will not be accessible to the public. Emergency services and first responders will still be able to access the bridge during the closure.

A detour route with a 5-ton weight limit will be maintained during the temporary bridge closures. The detour will bypass the bridge along River Road (Old US Highway 2 South) to Roosevelt Parkway, then Third Street.

Vehicles hauling trailers and long loads are encouraged to seek an alternate route, as there is a sharp, 90-degree turn along the detour route at the Roosevelt Bridge. Additionally, the project area has a width restriction of 12 feet.

Oversized and wide loads should call MDT Project Manager, Jason Livingston, at 406-471-0233 to coordinate travel across the bridge.

Signalized, single-lane traffic will be in place during normal working hours. Motorists are asked to allow additional travel time and watch for reduced speeds (35 mph) and flaggers in the construction area.
