America 250: From liberty to legacy

Every year, on the Fourth of July, something special happens in Coeur d'Alene.

Families line Sherman Avenue with lawn chairs and American flags. Children wave from parade floats. Friends gather in City Park. Visitors fill our downtown and waterfront. As the sun sets over Lake Coeur d'Alene, tens of thousands look skyward as fireworks illuminate the night sky.

What many people may not realize is that North Idaho's largest annual celebration doesn't happen by accident. It truly takes a village.

According to Placer.ai, between 75,000 and 100,000 people visit Coeur d'Alene each year to celebrate Independence Day in one of America's fastest-growing and most beautiful small towns. Hosting an event of this scale requires months of planning and the collaboration of countless organizations, volunteers, sponsors, donors, and community leaders who work behind the scenes to create a safe, memorable, and meaningful experience for everyone.

On behalf of the Coeur d'Alene Regional Chamber, I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our Presenting Sponsor, ICCU, whose leadership and commitment help make this cherished community tradition possible. We are also deeply grateful to our many partners, including the City of Coeur d'Alene, Coeur d'Alene Police Department, Coeur d'Alene Fire Department, The Coeur d'Alene Golf & Spa Resort, Hagadone Marine Group, Koep Concerts, Kootenai County Sheriff's Search & Rescue, Rotary Club of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho Panhandle Kiwanis, Scouting America, and Allegra Coeur d'Alene. Their dedication, expertise, and generosity are what transform this celebration from an event into a beloved community experience.

This year's celebration carries even greater significance as our nation commemorates America's 250th Birthday. Our American Heroes Parade theme, "America 250: From Liberty to Legacy," invites our community to reflect on the courage, sacrifice, and vision of those who came before us while considering the legacy we hope to leave for future generations.

At a time when differences can sometimes feel larger than the values that unite us, this celebration provides an opportunity to come together as neighbors, friends, and fellow Americans. We invite businesses, nonprofits, civic organizations, schools, churches, and community groups to participate in the parade and creatively interpret this year's theme. Whether through historical tributes, patriotic displays, stories of service, or visions for the future, we encourage participants to showcase what "From Liberty to Legacy" means to them. We invite our community to set aside our differences for a day, focus on the freedoms we share, and celebrate the enduring spirit that unites us as Americans.

We are also honored to recognize this year's Grand Marshals, Steve and Judy Meyer. For decades, this dynamic duo has demonstrated extraordinary dedication to our community through their leadership, volunteerism, generosity, and unwavering commitment to making Coeur d'Alene a better place. Their contributions have touched countless lives, and we are proud to celebrate their remarkable legacy during this year's festivities.

The celebration begins July 3 at 10 a.m. with the cherished Kiddie Parade along Sherman Avenue. On July 4, the day kicks off at 9 a.m. with the VIP Parade Watch Party hosted by the Coeur d'Alene Regional Chamber, and the American Heroes Parade starts at 10 a.m. along Sherman Avenue. Beginning at noon, City Park will come alive with music, food vendors, souvenir vendors, and family-friendly festivities throughout the afternoon. The day concludes at dusk with the spectacular fireworks show over beautiful Lake Coeur d'Alene.

If you've ever considered participating in the parade, now is the time. Space is limited, and we encourage interested businesses and organizations to submit their parade entries soon. VIP Parade Watch Party tickets — which include air-conditioned seating, food, beverages, ADA-compliant restrooms, live music, kid activities, and more — are also available and expected to sell out due to limited capacity.

Most importantly, we invite our entire community to come share in the magic. Grab your family, put on your red, white, and blue, wave your American flags, and join thousands of your neighbors and visitors as we celebrate America's 250th Birthday, the freedoms we enjoy, and the community we love.

Together, let's honor our past, celebrate our present, and inspire the future.
