An elderly woman's body was discovered in Coeur d'Alene National Forest late Sunday.

According to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, a citizen located a deceased female in a wooded area while bear hunting in the Marie Creek area.

Due to the remote location, numerous trees had to be removed to allow vehicle access to the scene.

"The deceased appeared to have been at the location for an extended period of time," a Monday press release said. "Investigators located a passport nearby indicating the deceased may be a 69-year-old female from New York."

The woman's identity is being withheld pending positive identification by the Kootenai County Coroner’s Office and notification of next of kin.

At this time, no foul play is suspected, the release said.

An investigation continues.
