Libby Public Schools teacher April Rewerts’ genocide class took upon themselves to raise awareness for anti-genocide in the local community and also raise money to send to the Genocide Survivors Foundation.

“They held a bake sale at the Pizza Hut Parking lot on June 1 and most of them spent time over the weekend baking from home, investing their own time and money into the project,” Rewerts said. “They advertised it and continued to call people to come and support the event all throughout the evening. They made $720 to send to the Genocide Survivors Foundation to help survivors and to help spread awareness! They also put educational flyers in every package of goodies to educate our community.”

Rewerts said she was amazed the teens were so determined to do it and pulled it off on such a large scale.

“I think it’s so inspiring because it is something so much bigger than themselves and they really did such an amazing job,” Rewerts said.
