Julia Kay, a multi-sport athlete at Flathead High, signed a letter of intent to compete in both flag football and wrestling at Life University in Marietta, Georgia.

The signing was announced via Instagram on Monday: Kay quarterbacked the Bravettes to a third-place finish at the State Flag Football Tournament last fall in Hamilton; in February she won the 130-pound championship at the State Wrestling meet in Billings.

It was her third state wrestling title, to go with two won in Utah.

This spring she ran on Flathead’s track and field team and qualified for state in three events. She took fourth in the 400 meters at the State AA meet on May 29 and helped the Bravettes’ long relay finish sixth.

Life’s women’s wrestling program is an NAIA power, having won two straight national titles; the Running Eagles went 11-6 in flag football last season. Savik also cleared 6-6 to win the high jump at the meet and finished third in the long jump at 21-10.75. All three marks were personal records.

Tamret Savik to jump for Vandals

Tamret Savik, Bigfork’s record-setting jump specialist, has committed to compete in track and field for the University of Idaho.

The annoucement came via Instagram on Monday.

Savik recently set the Class A record in the triple jump at the state championships on May 30, marking 48 feet, 4.75 inches.

That shattered the old record of 47-0.5 set in 1978.

For his Vikings career Savik won two individual state championships and was third in the triple jump in 2024 and second last season. He took fourth in the high jump as a sophomore and junior.

The Idaho men finished eighth at the most recent Big Sky Conference championships, and sent javelin thrower Blake Sturgis to the National Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

A three-sport athlete at Bigfork, Savik was second-team all-Northwest A as a football safety in 2025, and averaged 7.8 points and 4.2 rebounds last winter in basketball.

Hamilton-Dixon to Valley City St.

Noah Hamilton-Dixon of Bigfork has committed to run cross country at Valley City (N.D.) State University of the Frontier Conference.

Hamilton-Dixon finished 23rd at the 2025 State A cross country meet. The Bigfork Viking will now be a Valley City State Viking.

Whitefish Lake ace for Stephens

Gary Stephens shot a hole-in-one on No. 3 of the South Course at Whitefish Lake Golf Club on June 6.

Stephens used a 5-iron for the 125-yard shot, which was witnessed by Mike Conway, Ed Hawks and Pete Skarstedt.
