Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks may be preparing an environmental analysis on a proposal to purchase a conservation easement near Herron Park.

Flathead Land Trust is working with FWP to place a perpetual conservation easement on the land, prohibiting its conversion into housing or commercial development. The terms of the easement will include provisions to ensure perpetual public recreational access to 12 miles of forest roads and trails, including a 3.5-mile segment of the Foys to Blacktail Trail.

Comments received from this preliminary evaluation will help FWP determine public interest, identify potential issues that would require further analysis, and may provide insight for refining the proposal or for developing and analyzing one or more alternatives.

Upon completion of the preliminary evaluation, FWP will determine the next steps, which may include conducting an environmental analysis with additional opportunity for public input or taking no further action on the proposed project.
