'June 29th Memorial' planned at McEuen Park
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 3 weeks, 2 days AGO
Kootenai County Fire & Rescue and the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department will honor their brothers with a remembrance ceremony at 10 a.m. June 29.
This brief ceremony will be held at the Avista Pavilion at McEuen Park.
"Personnel from both fire departments and their families will be remembering our lost brothers, friends, and mentors, John G. Morrison and Frank J. Harwood," a press release said.
Morrison, with Coeur d'Alene Fire, and Harwood, with KCFR, were slain in the ambush attack June 29, 2025, on Canfield Mountain. David Tysdal, a Coeur d'Alene firefighter, was seriously wounded. He has since retired.
McEuen Park will remain open during this event and the public is invited to attend.
"We would like to provide the community with an opportunity to pay their respects, and to allow the fire service community a chance to give our thanks to all those that have supported us through this horrible incident," the release said. "Our community showed up for us in an extraordinary way last year, and we are deeply grateful."
The departments thanked those who visited their stations, joined the processions and lined roadways as they transported their brothers to and from Spokane.
"Thank you also to all who participated in fundraisers for the families, donated to the Red and Blue Foundation and the Jeff Welch Foundation, left handmade tributes, or simply stopped to check on us. Your love and support have meant more than words can express," the release said.
