Region’s jiu jitsu academies bring home 18 golds from The Forum

COEUR d’ALENE — Over 400 participants made their way to the Coeur d’Alene Boys and Girls Club for The Forum Open, a wide-ranging jiu jitsu competition May 30.

Teams from across the Inland Northwest came to compete, but few saw more success than the ones who hailed from Bonner County. Based in Sandpoint, North Idaho Jiu Jitsu took home second place as an academy, bringing home 11 gold, 14 silver and 10 bronze medals.  

Destiny Johnson, Ayla Steves and Allison Fruhwirth both took home two gold medals each, winning their weight classes in both the Gi and No-Gi styles. 

Gold: Mark Wofsey (10-12, 116-125), Tucker Porath (10-12, 136-155), Destiny Johnson (18-29, 171-185, No-Gi and Gi), Michelle Bishop (18-29, 216+), Rory Smith (10-12, 100-115), Lennox Peilleron (8-9, 80-89), Ayla Stevens (8-9, -49 No-Gi and Gi), Allison Fruhwirth (13-14, 126-135, No-Gi and Gi) 

Silver: Tyrus Stevens (10-12, 60-69), Lennox Peilleron (8-9, 80-89), Henry Weme (10-12, 80-89), Darren Fruhwirth (13-14, 100-115), Mark Wofsey (10-12, 116-125), Cloud Williamson (18-29, 136-145), Zeke Rawson (18-29, 186-205), RJ Mather (8-9, 60-69), Hudson Macomber (8-9, 60-69), Tucker Porath (10-12, 136-145), Mark Wofsey (10-12, 116-125), Penelope McGraw (8-9, 80-89, No-Gi and Gi), Harley Werner (8-9, 50-59) 

Bronze: Joesph Scarpelli (6-7, 70-79), Tyrus Stevens (10-12, 60-69), Owen Werner (13-14, 90-99), William Le Roy (10-12, 70-79), Mark Wofsey (10-12, 116-125), Darren Fruhwirth (13-14, 100-125), Leroy Werner (15-17, 116-125), McKinley Storebo (10-12, 9-99), Emlyn Heaton (10-12, 70-79) 

Those training under the banner of the Sylvio Behring Association, which trains out of Bonners Ferry and Ponderay, were scored as the sixth-best team out of 35. SBA took home seven gold, eight silver and six bronze medals.
