250 YEARS: “God Only Knows!”
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 2 weeks, 6 days AGO
In June our storm-battered flag was replaced by a new Old Glory. Veterans reflected on naval victories that took place in June at the Battle of Midway (1942) and D-Day (1944).
However, three letters to the Press on June 3 marched to a different drummer — very negative and even supported a leftist Marxist ideology? There is a “sickness of the soul” for some. Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. says, “derangement syndrome” is real!
To those disenchanted people beware of Trojan horses appearing. Perhaps you should read “Tortured for Christ.” We met Richard Wurmbrand of “Voice of the Martyrs” in 1989 and his feet were so badly damaged by the Communists that he sat when speaking to us.
Our family had respect for President Harry Truman, even though our candidate Thomas Dewey lost (1948)!
Yes, once mighty nations — such as Assyria, Babylon and Rome — were judged, but it is God who rules. “Why do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing?” (Psalm 2).
Certainly, America needs another “Great Awakening,” or spiritual revival, such as in the 1730s-1740s and 1790s-1840s.
Rather than people depending on the state for their hopes, it should be God: 1) Loving God, 2) Loving our neighbor, 3) Being grateful, 4) Using our talents, 5) Listening more and 6) Using common sense.
Proverbs 6:16-19 lists 7 things the Lord hates: 1) Arrogance, 2) Lying, 3) Killing the innocent, 4) Plotting evil, 5) Rushing to do evil, 6) Being a false witness and 7) Sewing discord among others.
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord…” (Psalm 33:12).
