EDITORIAL: Don’t pick on Washington

What was an excellent and thoughtful editorial on Wednesday about where Idaho stands in relation to other states in taxes collected, was ruined by the pot shot against the state of Washington: “Unlike our friends in Washington state that have yet to see a tax they don’t like.” That is a mean-spirited comment that demeans the editor and does not belong in an editorial. 

A more appropriate way would be to contrast Washington’s ranking with Idaho’s, leaving snarky opinions out of the mix. It is those snarky opinions that divide us rather than unite us in appreciation for the fact Idaho has a more balanced tax system.
