John S. MacMillan Jr., 90, passed away peacefully on June 11, at the age of 90.

John was born on Mother's Day, May 10, 1936. Fittingly, he celebrated his 90th birthday this year on Mother's Day, surrounded by family and loved ones.

A lifelong resident of the Flathead Valley, John graduated from the University of Montana in 1958. Following the death of his father, John returned to help operate the family business, MacMillan Drug. In 1967, he began a career in banking as a loan officer with First Federal Savings and Loan. He rose through the ranks of the banking industry and ultimately retired in 1997 as President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of the Board of Glacier Bank after more than three decades of service.

John was widely respected in the community and in 2009 was honored by the University of Montana as Businessman of the Year.

While John was proud of his professional accomplishments, his greatest joy came from his family. He cherished time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. He coached Little League baseball during his sons' younger years and created countless memories.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Ellen MacMillan; his two sons, Scott MacMillan and his children, Dan and Kristin; and Mark MacMillan and his wife, Sharon, along with their daughters, Nikki MacMillan and Lexi Guthrie and her husband, Dan. He was also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Ellie.

He is further survived by his nieces, Jana and Paula Jo, and his nephews, Bob, Matt, and Vince Hunter.

John was preceded in death by his father, Scotty MacMillan; his mother, Maude MacMillan; his sister, Sue, who passed away before he was born; and his sister, Paula.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Buffalo Hill Golf Club on July 1, at 3:00 p.m. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and share memories of a life well lived.

The family would like to thank the many friends, colleagues, and community members whose lives John touched throughout his remarkable journey. His legacy of leadership, service, integrity, and devotion to family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
