Darwin Eugene Hall passed away Dec. 8, 2025, in Bremen, Germany. He was born April 10, 1947, in Ogden, Utah, to Loval Leroy and Jean Ladonna Hedges Hall. Darwin lived in Utah until 1958, when the family moved to Wolf Lodge in Coeur d'Alene, where he grew up with five younger siblings: Rhonda (Jim) Paulson, Coeur d'Alene, Mick (Flower) Hall, Groesbeck, Texas; Lonny (Susan) San Antonio, Texas, Scott (Maria) Austin, Texas, and Jeff (Wanda), Coeur d'Alene.
Darwin was kind, mild-mannered, generous and positive. He grew up as a hardworking, responsible, gentle man, a good son and brother. He became a heavy equipment operator at 17, joining the Operating Engineers Union. In 1966, he was drafted into the Army and worked with the Army Corps of Engineers building the Alcan Highway in Alaska. Darwin had a quest for learning. While in the Army, he got his GED and his pilot's license. After his honorable discharge, he worked on road/dam projects, including the Lower Granite and Grand Coulee Dams. He also became a Millwright, working on heavy equipment machines. He became a Registered Nurse in 1973 and worked for over 12 years. He drove long-haul truck and owned his own truck. He worked as an Air Traffic Controller at Fairchild Air Force Base and served many years in the Air National Guard, retiring as a Major.
Darwin married Linda Kay Battien in 1970. They had four children: Spring Hall, Otis Orchards, Wash.; Spencer Hall, Hauser Lake; Rex Hall (Danniele), Spokane Valley and Josh Hall, Provo, Utah. The marriage didn't last and he later married Tami Phelon. They resided in Texas, Alabama and Idaho. After that marriage ended, Darwin married Marcia Nobis. They were married for 12 years and resided in Coeur d'Alene. He is a grandfather to seven grandchildren: Austin Hall (Samantha), Jasmyn Dunwoody (Brandon), Ethan Hall (Paige), Grayson Hall, Ayden Hall, Savannah Hall and Jackson Hall. Darwin is the great-grandfather to twins Willa and Ellie Dunwoody, as well as Armania Hall.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings, including Branch President in Alabama, and as an Ordinance Worker and Baptismal Coordinator with his wife, Marcia, in the Spokane, Wash., Temple.
A celebration of life is Saturday, June 13, 2026, 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 2801 N. Fourth St. Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Inurnment will be at Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 7315 N. Government Way, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
