LEGION BASEBALL: Prairie tourney opener ends in tie

PASCO, Wash. — The Prairie Cardinals AA team scored five runs in the second inning, but they finished with a 5-5 tie against Rock Creek Select Upperclass 18U on Friday in the opener of a Top Tier tournament at Chiawana High. 

Isaiah Kearney hit a two-run single in the second inning to get Prairie (6-3-1) on the board. Timothy Howard added a two-run double to give the Cardinals a 4-3 lead. 

Logan Storrer went 3 for 4 with a triple and double for Prairie. 

Prairie is scheduled to play the Tri-Cities Badgers 17U today at 1 p.m. at Tri-Cities Prep, and the RSP Baseball Upperclass at 3:30 at Columbia Basin College, both in Pasco.

Lums drop two at Palouse tourney 

Coeur d’Alene took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Kalispell Lakers A 18U scored three times in the top of the seventh to edge the Lums AA squad 7-6 at Bailey-Brayton Field in Pullman in their second game Friday at the Palouse Summer Series. 

Earlier Friday, at McDonald Park in Colfax, Coeur d’Alene lost 4-2 to the Palouse Patriots 18U club. 

In the first game, the Lums (4-6) out-hit the Palouse Patriots 18U 5-3, but Coeur d’Alene pitchers walked 10 and both Lums errors led to runs.  

Malcolm MacNiven hit a two-run double in the top of the third inning to tie the game at 2 for the Lums. 

Against Kalispell, Asa Morton drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the sixth to break a 4-all tie for Coeur d’Alene, and Colton Nordman’s squeeze bunt scored MacNiven.  

In the second inning, the Lums trailed 4-0 before Morton singled home a run and Nordman singled hom Morton. 

In the fourth, Evan Nuss hit an RBI double and scored the tying run on Nordman’s single. 

Coeur d’Alene, 1-2 in tourney play, wraps up group play tonight vs. the Kennewick Dusters AA 17U squad at 9 p.m. at Bailey-Brayton Field.
