The Yarn Connection, a knitting and crochet club at the Kroc Center, got a jump on the July 11 National Yarn Bombing Day celebration Thursday afternoon by decorating areas outside the circle and a bench inside the facility.
“National Yarn Bombing Day is a creative way to bring warmth, whimsy and a sense of love and community to public spaces,” said Mary Owens, program manager of the Coeur d’Alene Kroc Center.
Owens said The Yarn Connection is a group of dedicated community members who generously share their time and talents by creating handmade items, such as hats and blankets, using donated yarn.
“Members contribute an average of 30 items a week, helping build a supply in preparation for the winter season,” Owens said. “During the colder months, The Yarn Connection donates hats, blankets and scarves to those in need — whether through local organizations, schools or individuals seeking warmth.”
The Yarn Connection meets every Tuesday at the Kroc Center from 1 to 3 p.m.
