Sandpoint 10, Moscow 2

PULLMAN — An RBI single from Sandpoint High School sophomore Erik Hansen got the party started for the Sasquatch 17U, helping the team cruise to a 10-2 victory in the first game of the Palouse Summer Series on Thursday.

While Hansen got things going, the entire Sasquatch team continued to chip away at the Moscow Blue Devils A team’s pitching, scoring in all but two of the game’s seven innings. SHS junior Chase Miller had a standout day behind the plate, going 3-4 with a triple and knocking in two runs. Miller led the team with five total bases on the afternoon.

Sasquatch catcher Cash Crateau also had himself a multi-hit day, going 2-3 with two RBIs and a walk. After a Moscow rally brought the game within reach for the Blue Devils, Crateau drove in Miller following his triple in the top of the fifth inning, extending the Sasquatch’s lead to 6-2.

SHS rising senior Carson Resso’s lone hit of the day was a double in the third, which drove in two runs. Resso also started the day on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing only three hits and one earned run while striking out two batters.

Hansen came in to finish the job with a stellar 3.2 innings where he allowed no hits and no runs. Hansen walked two batters but struck out one looking in the fifth.

Sandpoint High School senior Daniel Holman had an electric day on the basepaths, stealing two bases and being scored three times. Holman went 1-2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch on Thursday.

The Sasquatch benefited from five Moscow errors, with two of those advancing runners helping them score two of the four runs in the final inning of the contest.

PULLMAN — Two RBIs from Austyn Young weren’t enough to lift the Sasquatch 17U over the towering Tri City Titans on Friday, as they fell 12-3.

Unlike their first outing, Sandpoint struggled to generate much offense, ending this game without an extra-base hit and striking out six times as a team. Sandpoint High School rising seniors Young and Carson Resso were the only players to drive in runs for the Sasquatch, all in the fourth inning.

Resso finished the day 2-3, standing as the long Sasquatch player who reached base twice. Daniel Holman, Erik Hansen and Andrew Aexel were all able to work walks, each off a different Titans pitcher.

Broden Collins got the start for Sandpoint and battled through 4.0 innings, giving up five hits and six runs while striking out three batters.

For the Titans, infielder and Kennewick High School rising senior Sebastian Iniguez went 3-4 batting and knocked in a whopping six runs.

The Sasquatch will put a cap on the Palouse Summer Series on Saturday before returning home to play the Northern Lakes Mountaineers on Monday, June 22, at War Memorial Field at 6 p.m.
