PULLMAN, Wash. — One day after handing the Tri-City Titans their lone loss, the Kalispell AA Lakers closed their Palouse Summer Series with a 2-1 setback to the same team.

The defeat was their first in six games at the tournament. Earlier Sunday Beau Shulz threw a complete game in a 7-3 win over the Walla Walla Bruins.

Dominic Driver pitched 4 2-3 innings of one-hit ball for Tri-City, was replaced by Rece McClure and from there the Lakers made noise but couldn’t break through. They left two runners on in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

The seventh was tense: Dillon Wink led off with a double and came in on Eli Coopman’s triple to center as the Lakers (6-3) drew to 2-1. After Brady Buckmaster struck out the Lakers tried a squeeze but Coopman was out at the plate.

Miles Arrowsmith walked to put the tying run — Lincoln Fisher — in scoring position but Teagan Dixon grounded out to end it.

The Titans (5-1) took a 2-0 lead thanks a walk, single, error and RBI groundout in the third. Neither run was earned.

The Lakers’ tandem of Tait Orme and Liam Rech combined on a six-inning two-hitter. Orme allowed both hits and five innings; he walked two and struck out two. Rech fanned one and walked one in the sixth.

Lincoln Fisher lined a single to center to bring in Schara, capping the rally.

Schulz retired 12 of the last 14 hitters he faced. In seven innings he allowed seven hits, a walk and three early runs. He hit one batter and struck out five.
