Edmund Paul McGonigle, age 73, passed away peacefully on June 8, in Spokane, Washington.

Born on July 23, 1952, in Butte, Ed was raised in Butte and Kalispell. He graduated from Flathead High School, attended Carroll College in Helena, and later earned his degree from the University of Montana. Ed’s love of Montana always drew him back, and he remained deeply connected to the people, places, and memories that shaped his life there.

After completing his education, Ed ventured to the “big city” of Spokane, Washington, where he found his professional home at Prudential Builder Center. Over a career spanning more than 40 years, he built lasting friendships and earned the respect of colleagues and customers alike.

Ed lived a life centered on family, friendship and devotion to those he loved. He was known for his warmth, kindness and the unique personality that brought joy and laughter to family gatherings and everyday moments alike. His outgoing personality and gift for conversation made him a cherished friend to many.

The disease gradually took away the personality we knew and loved, though his spirit remains forever with us.

Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Kathie Krell McGonigle; his sister, Mary McCourt and brother-in-law, Mike McCourt; his brother, Charles McGonigle and sister-in-law, Chris McGonigle; his nieces and nephews, Gavin McCourt, Maureen McCourt Olejniczak (Keith), Megan McGonigle Gittings, Tim McGonigle (Tiffany), Joe McGonigle, Maggie McGonigle (Jordan) and Jacob McGonigle; and his stepsons, Corey Hobson and Travis Hobson.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Ed’s doctors, caregivers and all those who helped him through his final years. Special gratitude is given to Ken, LaKeisha, Maurice, Chrissy and Nichola at Bolivaar Adult Family Home, whose compassion, kindness and dedication made our final days together more bearable.

Services and a celebration of life will be held in late July. Additional details will be shared with family and friends as they become available.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels Spokane in Ed’s memory.

Ed will be remembered for the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the memories he leaves behind. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
