Debra 'Deb' Tatum, 71
Whitefish Pilot | UPDATED 1 week, 5 days AGO
Debra “Deb” Tatum of Whitefish passed away peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2026, at the age of 71. Her partner of 30 years, Kent Gilkerson, was by her side at the time of Deb’s passing.
Deb was born in Long Island, New York, to Phyllis Lendin Sporbert and Ernest Sporbert. In her adulthood, Deb lived in several parts of the country, and while living in Minnesota, she met the love of her life, Kent, at a bar where she bought him a drink for his birthday — and the rest, as they say, is history. In 2005, they moved to Whitefish to pursue their passion for skiing. Deb’s career spanned a wide range of talents from stockbroker to selling pasta at farmers markets. Deb also had a wide range of interests and enjoyed skiing, motorcycling, darts and was a fantastic cook. Deb and Kent enjoyed exploring local breweries, Whitefish Chamber Gone Fishin’ open houses and spending time with their dogs, Rossi, Urry and Athena.
Deb’s difficult final years were met with grace and humor. Her love for chocolate and ice cream was legendary to those who spent time with her during this period.
Deb was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Sandra Petronio.
She is survived by her loving partner, Kent Gilkerson; niece, Kristen Petronio; and friends Karen and Sarah.
In lieu of flowers, to honor Deb, please spend time visiting with loved ones, especially those who may be lonely, isolated, sick or disabled.
