Music has the power to inspire, educate, and bring people together.
In that spirit, the Newport Creative District is proud to collaborate with the Newport School District, the Pend Oreille County Library, CREATE Arts and Community Center, and other community partners and music supporters to bring the Spokane Symphony to Newport in the spring of 2027.
The proposal includes two meaningful components. The first centers on education, offering interactive classroom instruction and/or a school assembly that will introduce students to live orchestral music and deepen their appreciation for the arts.
“For many of our students, this will be their first experience hearing professional orchestra musicians,” said a member of the planning committee. “It’s a moment that can spark curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of music.” The Newport School District is assuming responsibility for funding this portion of the project.
The second component is a full symphony orchestra concert, open to the entire community — an opportunity for Newport residents of all ages to experience the power and beauty of live orchestral performance close to home. The estimated cost for this portion of the project is $25,000. The planning committee is working to secure funding by Sept. 15, 2026, in order to confirm a concert date for the spring season.
Area residents are invited to pledge the event.
