100 Years Ago

The State Fish and Game Dept. has selected the site of a rearing pond where young trout can be kept before they are big enough to be released. The area is near the mouth of Ruby Creek and will take care of about half a million trout in one season.

The engineer of a Great Northern train was killed when the engine hit a boulder which rolled under the engine. The tender and 5 cars were derailed about 2 miles west of Katka.


50 Years Ago

Frank Quagliano, Chief Deputy at the Boundary County Sheriff's office for the past 19 months, resigned his position to run for sheriff.

Three area teenagers will be among 1,800 United States students leaving for an overseas family living experience. Margaret Douglas and Lynnette Levig are heading to Germany. Dana Meyer is going to Sweden.

The hospital has a brand new piece of life-saving equipment . The machine is called a Life Pak 4. It can be used as a defibrillator as well as a heart monitor.

The Rex Theater in downtown Bonners Ferry hosted a showing of "Pirates of the Caribbean, On Stranger Tides". There was a fantastic turn out with fans dressed in pirate attire.

A great opportunity was offered this week to kids in Bonners Ferry by the Badger Boosters and NBC basketball camp.

Boundary County Commissioners on Monday declared an agricultural disaster here due to standing water in fields.
