All should celebrate America's big birthday
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 1 week, 2 days AGO
America’s 250th birthday is a historic milestone that belongs to every community! While the national anniversary lands July 4, we do not have to wait until then to honor our shared history, diverse culture and the local spirit that shapes our town.
Celebrating early is a wonderful way to bring neighbors together and reflect on the values that unite us. By focusing on civic pride and community connection now, we can build momentum for a truly unforgettable summer.
There are many simple and meaningful ways to begin honoring America 250 today. To help spark this early patriotic enthusiasm, we are thrilled to announce the official America 250 Kids Coloring Contest.
Children can choose from two coloring pages featuring historic local landmarks, including The Dari Delight, now known as Roger's Ice Cream and Burgers on Sherman Avenue, and the J.C.White House, which has been transformed into the Museum of North Idaho. The contest is open to all children ages 12 and younger who live in Kootenai County.
Coloring templates can be picked up at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library, Coeur d’Alene City Hall and the Kroc Center, and are also available to download online at cdaid.org/hpc.
One submission is allowed per person. The child’s name, age, address and phone number must be written on the back of the coloring page.
Completed masterpieces must be submitted to Coeur d’Alene City Hall, 710 E. Mullan Ave., by Friday, June 26. A panel of local artists and civic leaders will judge the entries based on creativity and vibrant expression.
Winners will be announced during the upcoming America 250 Community Celebration at the Kootenai County Courthouse. The Grand Prize winner will have their artwork placed in the new time capsule to be opened 100 years from now. Second and Third Place winners will receive gift cards to Roger's Ice Cream and Burgers.
Another fun way to celebrate America’s 250th birthday is to join the community celebration at the Kootenai County Courthouse. “Spuddy John Jay” is making a special appearance at our community event July 3!
This historical potato character is part of the Revolutionary Spuddy Buddies, a whimsical fleet of official ambassadors traveling the state for Idaho’s America250 celebration. Spuddy John Jay is traveling to Coeur d’Alene to spread cheer and celebrate our heritage. It’s a wonderful opportunity to blend local Idaho pride with American history!
Let’s show our national pride, support our youngest citizens and kick off the celebration of America 250 together. Pick up your coloring page today and make your mark on history.
