SANDPOINT — Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal four-vehicle incident that occurred on U.S. Highway 95 near Sandpoint on Sunday morning.

Idaho State Police said the crash happened when a 40-year-old male from Ponderay was driving a red Honda Fit sedan northbound on U.S. 95 pulled over to allow a 26-year-old male from Sandpoint, driving a gray Toyota Tacoma, to pass. As the Toyota passed the Honda, the two vehicles made contact, after which the Toyota crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a white GMC Sierra driven by a 66-year-old female.

After the GMC was struck, a blue Subaru Forester traveling behind the GMC, driven by a 52-year-old female, hit the GMC from behind.

The female driving the GMC succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The drivers of the Honda, Toyota, and Subaru were wearing seat belts. The driver of the GMC was not.

No alcohol or drugs are suspected, with an investigation still ongoing.
