Shoshone News-Press | UPDATED 1 week, 1 day AGO
David Leroy Maple passed away peacefully June 6, 2026, at Mountain Valley Cascadia in Kellogg, Idaho. David was born Feb. 11, 1937, at Wardner Hospital in Kellogg, Idaho, to Bill and Frances Maple.
David grew up in the Silver Valley and attended schools throughout the area, with fond memories of his childhood days in Murray, Idaho. David attended Kingston High School at the time they transferred to the newly built Kellogg High School, making his class of 1956 the first to graduate from the new school. He was very proud to have played for the Kellogg High basketball team that won the 1956 Idaho State Division A Championship.
David married Margo Lemich on Oct. 17, 1959, and they shared 63 wonderful years together until Margo's passing in 2022. They made their home on the West Fork of Pine Creek, where they raised their children, Bill and Cynthia. He also enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They will always remember his good stories, joking with them and riding on the motorcycle/ATV.
David spent his career as a logger operating log loaders and high leads. He worked for several companies over the years, including Jerry Avery Logging, Northwest Timber, Roth Brothers and Don Brown Logging.
David had many recreational hobbies over the years, including muzzleloader competition shooting, long-distance rifle shooting, reloading, snowmobiling for pleasure, and some racing, motorcycle/ATV riding, and working the gold claims up Eagle Creek. He also loved golf and was a member of the Pinehurst Country Club, where he played on the senior men's team. He was an avid Gonzaga basketball and Seattle Seahawks fan. His career in the woods made him a great guide for ATV rides with friends and family. His knowledge and expertise of the North Idaho mountains, trails and roads were extremely impressive and always made for an enjoyable ride.
David was a man of great integrity, and his legacy will live on in the memories we hold dear.
David was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margo; his parents, Bill and Frances Maple; and his brother, Richard Maple. He is survived by his son, Bill (Tambra) Maple; his daughter, Cynthia (Jim) Best; his grandchildren, Ashlee, Kari, Talia, Natalie; his great-grandchildren, Gabbie, Chase, Colt, Arlee, Aspen, TyAnne, Riggin, Jake, Cody, Wyatt. At his request, cremation will take place, and his family will gather to honor his memory at a later date. If you would like to honor David, memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, P.O.
