Sandpoint asks for citizen feedback concerning City Beach RV Park renovation

SANDPOINT — The city of Sandpoint is seeking feedback from community residents on how they would like to see the City Beach RV Park renovated. The site was acquired by the city in 2020 following a land swap with the owners of the Edgewater Hotel.
The park generates more than $100,000 per year, currently serving 23 RVs and being regularly booked from Memorial Day to Labor Day. However, despite its strong performance, the city has not made meaningful capital improvements to the park since acquiring ownership.
Two concepts with varying improvements to the park have been proposed, but before making a decision, the city is asking residents to weigh in.
Community members are being asked to share their preferred concept through an online survey, which can be found at sandpointidaho.gov/citybeach. The survey details an overview of each concept, similarities and differences between each concept, design principles, and a project timeline. Once individuals have read through the information presented in the survey, they can rank and submit their preferred concepts, according to survey instructions.
Differences identified in the survey include that Concept B provides 14 more parking stalls than Concept A, and Concept A emphasizes pedestrian connections while Concept B favors more green space/trees. The concepts differ in drop-off zone locations and opposite-direction RV traffic flow.
Both concepts propose an increased number of vehicle parking stalls and 10 more boat trailer stalls, a boat launch that meets standards for trailer maneuverability, and roundabouts to filter traffic at the park entrance.
Community members can discuss the project with the design team and city staff at a booth during the Sandpoint Farmers Market from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27.
Staff will take the community's feedback to the City Council meeting held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, to assist in making a decision for which concept to select. Residents are encouraged to share their input at the City Council meeting, according to the city's website.
Phase 1 of the project, the RV Park renovation, will begin construction this fall while the second phase, the City Beach parking lot, is slated to begin in the fall of 2027.
