AA Lakers fall to Mavericks in defensive battle

Dawson Rodoni tossed 5 2-3 innings and Stellan Ridley went yard in a 4-1 Missoula victory over the AA Kalispell Lakers in Legion baseball Tuesday at Griffin Field.

Rodoni allowed five hits and just the one run while sitting down five batters for the Mavericks (12-4). Andrew Richardson added 1 1-3 innings of no-hit relief, striking out three. 

Kalispell (7-7) got 6 1-3 innings from Beau Schulz, who gave up four runs on four hits and fanned four. George Schwan sat down both batters he faced in relief. 

Ridley opened the game with a solo shot in the top of the first inning to give Missoula a 1-0 lead. Owen Felton added a triple and came home on an error later in the inning. 

The 2-0 lead held until the sixth inning when Dillon Wink singled to center field and scored Micah Engle for the Lakers. Richardson got Teagan Dixon to ground out before Kalispell could tie the game. 

Gabe Gibbs gave Missoula an insurance run in the seventh with a double to center that brought home Ethan Paugh. An error allowed Gibbs to score two batters later to give the Mavericks a 4-1 lead. 

Richardson worked three straight strikeouts to close out the victory for Missoula. 

Kalispell remains home for a Thursday doubleheader with the Great Falls Chargers, with first pitch at 5 p.m.
