Eternal be her memory
Demitrula James Madison, 87, of Moses Lake, Washington, left us peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Demitrula, or “Demi,” will always be remembered for her genuine love, kindness and willingness to help those in troublesome circumstances.
Born on Sept. 13, 1938, in Everett, Washington, Demi grew up as the fifth daughter of James and Gertrude Roppas and sister to six sisters: Violet, Helen, Angela, Athena, Marianne and Thelma. When she wasn’t helping around the house or milking cows at her father’s Dairy Farm, Demi was an active member of the Greek church community, in particular the Daughters of Penelope where she was a 70-year member.
On Jan. 23, 1957, Demitrula married the love of her life, Wendell Madison of Piggott, Arkansas. The two shared a passionate romance that lasted nearly 69 years.
Demi devoted her working career to Boeing, where she worked for over 20 years and rose through the ranks to become lead in the wire-shop. Demi was an amazing mother, and that didn’t stop at her own children. She loved all children and truly believed that every child had potential and sought to help as many young minds as she could with her anecdotal stories, kisses, warm hugs and infectious love.
Demi is survived by her four sons Wendell Jr., David, James and Jonathan and her only daughter, Tamara Grigg, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Violet, Helen, Angela and Athena.
A service to celebrate Demi’s life will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Demetrios Orthodox Church of Seattle or the AHEPA Family Education Foundation. Both organizations were close to Demi’s heart.
