Taylor Dorvall, recent graduate of Whitefish High School, is a recipient of this year’s Selah Natural Medicine Montana Girls Wrestling Scholarship. Taylor Lay of Helena Capital, Sophia Bridges of Eureka, Peyton Liva of Butte High and Bailey Billmayer from Chinook were the other recipients.

Each of the winners receive up to a $1,000 scholarship. This is the fourth year Dr. Chip Halverson, ND, a physician in Kalispell and Polson, has offered the scholarship.

The interest in the scholarship has grown and so it was decided to increase the number and amount of scholarship available for these outstanding young women.

The winners this year exemplify the purpose of the scholarship, which is to demonstrate character, integrity, determination and a willingness to help others. They have been role models in helping grow girls wrestling in Montana. Their accomplishments, both in service to their community and school coupled with their strong academic and athletic accomplishments impressed the scholarship committee.

It is noteworthy that all recipients qualified for the most recent state wrestling tournament with Taylor Dorvall being a state finalist and Taylor Lay becoming a three-time Montana State High School Champion and four-time finalist.

“All the recipients impressed the committee and demonstrated that there is more to life than just winning matches. What you do for others and the stance you take to support your peers is even more important,” said Halverson. “We would like to grow the scholarship in the future with a continuing scholarship for current Montana women wrestling at the college level and add to the enthusiasm for more women’s college programs in Montana.”
