Newport street party announced
Get ready to twist and shout at the ultimate neighborhood block party! My Sidewalk Cafe and the Newport Creative District are teaming up to transform Downtown Newport into a high-energy street dance that you won't want to miss.
Saturday, July 11, we are shutting down Third Street (between Washington and Union Avenues) to set the stage for an unforgettable evening. The Rusty Vikings will be headlining the night, cranking out your favorite 50’s and 60’s rock 'n roll hits to keep the dance floor jumping from 6pm-9pm. Feel free to bring your own lawn chairs for when you need a breather, but don't expect to sit for long!
Hungry or thirsty? My Sidewalk Cafe has you covered with a lively beer garden and a delicious limited menu featuring light fare to keep you fueled throughout the festivities.
Entry to the dance is completely free, though donations to support the Newport Creative District are greatly appreciated to help keep our local arts scene thriving. Grab your dancing shoes and meet us on Third Street!
Support sought for symphony fundraiser
Music has the power to inspire, educate, and bring people together. In that spirit, the Newport Creative District is proud to collaborate with the Newport School District, the Pend Oreille County Library, CREATE Arts and Community Center, and other community partners and music supporters to bring the Spokane Symphony to Newport in the spring of 2027.
The proposal includes two meaningful components. The first centers on education, offering interactive classroom instruction and/or a school assembly that will introduce students to live orchestral music and deepen their appreciation for the arts. The Newport School District is assuming responsibility for funding this portion of the project.
The second component is a full symphony orchestra concert, open to the entire community—an opportunity for Newport residents of all ages to experience the power and beauty of live orchestral performance close to home. The estimated cost for this portion of the project is $25,000. The planning committee is working to secure funding by Sept. 15 in order to confirm a concert date for the spring season.
