Alpine Theatre Project presents “The Great American Songbook” on July 1 and 2 at 7 p.m. at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center. The two-night live musical theatre event features Broadway professionals performing the timeless standards of Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, and Rodgers and Hart — the music that moved from Tin Pan Alley to jazz clubs, supper clubs, movie screens, and living rooms across America.
Directed by Broadway veteran Tracy McDowell, ATP's artistic director — whose credits include the Broadway company of “RENT” and its live filmed production, as well as national tours and international productions — the cast features artists from Broadway, national tours, off-Broadway, film and television.
Anne Fraser Thomas arrives from the original Broadway cast of “Queen of Versailles” alongside Kristin Chenoweth. LaTrisa Harper appeared on Broadway in “The Color Purple” and “The Lion King.” Cameron Mitchell Bell is a veteran of the Broadway national tour of “Annie” and the international tour of “Beauty and the Beast.” Matthew Sims Jr. made his Broadway debut in “The Wiz,” opened the 78th Tony Awards with Cynthia Erivo, and appeared on SNL 50 with Lady Gaga. Amelia Cormack comes to ATP from “Hadestown on Broadway,” with national tours of “Come From Away” and “Kinky Boots,” and returns to the ATP stage where she previously appeared in “Man of LaMancha.”
The cast also includes Angela Wildflower, Becky Stout, Susan O'Dea, Rebecca Spear, Todd MacIntyre; and Mikey Winn. Music direction is by award-winning musical director Joshua Stephen Kartes with a live band: Kartes, Jeremy Reinbolt, and Matt Seymour.
The artists performing on the stage July 1 and 2 are also spending three weeks training young performers at ATP's Broadway Summer Camp, where kds in the Flathead Valley work alongside Broadway artists. Camp started on June 22 and runs through July 9.
