July Fourth marks the 250th anniversary of the independence from that tyrant King George III and his empire. Gift your grandchildren with the habit of voting. It is our destiny that is at stake.

Fireworks in Polson at dusk on July 3, and weeks before the Fourth and weeks afterward. Celebrate America every week.

No Bingo on July 3. Go enjoy the celebrations.

We have air-conditioned space for two or more to meet and greet. Socialize with your friends without having to clean up after them.

Activities at the Polson Senior Center include: bingo at 6 p.m. Fridays and card bingo, 6 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays; pinochle, 12:30 p.m. Monday, no pass, and Thursdays, pass four (new and old players welcome); pool table available 8 a.m.-3 p.m. daily; mahjong and bridge, noon Wednesdays (looking for substitutes and regular players); exercise class (low impact and video-assisted), 10:30-11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Kiwanis Club of Polson, which typically meets at the center, has no meetings in July or August. Spinning Wheelers meet 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays (call 208-520-1013); and the Veterans Service Officer is available from 10 a.m.-noon on the first Friday and third Tuesday of each month (walk-ins welcome).

Don’t forget to hydrate frequently, especially during these warmer months. By the time you feel thirsty, it’s too late. Water from your sink is way cheaper than bottled liquids and better for you too – refill those containers!

Lunch is served from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday ($5 donation). Milk is available with all meals; delivery service is available.

Main dishes include: Hawaiian hot dogs, June 25; Birthday Dinner at Noon, with traditional roast pork and fixings, June 26; Navy bean and ham soup, June 29; hamburger, mashed spuds and gravy, June 30; and menu TBD, July 1.

Our community center provides space for individuals and groups to meet for physical and mental health, social and educational purposes, and may be reserved for special events on weekends and evenings.

We are open 8 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays, or later by appointment.
