A host of fun activities are on tap next month as Sandpoint Parks & Recreation readies for a busy July.

Offerings include:

• Yang-style tai chi

Sandpoint Parks & Recreation invites the community to experience the gentle, flowing movements of yang-style tai chi with instructor Mark Evans. The free, hour-long class offers an intermediate/experienced class at 9 a.m. and a beginner class at 10 a.m. Both classes will be held at the City Beach basketball courts through September and focus on balance, flexibility and mindfulness.

Participants are asked to wear comfortable clothing and clean, non-marking, low-profile shoes (please change out of outdoor footwear for indoor classes). No registration is required. Drop in anytime!

• Sandpoint Contra Dance

Sandpoint Parks and Recreation is again teaming up with Emily Faulkner to share the fun of community contra dancing.

"Live music, lively steps, and lots of smiles, it’s the perfect way to connect with neighbors, meet new friends, and dance your heart out," city officials said. "No partner? No problem! No experience? Even better."

Beginners are encouraged to join the introductory session at 7 p.m. sharp. All ages are welcome, so bring the whole family.

Participants should wear comfortable breathable clothes and bring clean, non-marking shoes. Dancers are asked to change out of their outdoor shoes before dancing.

A $8 to 10 donation is suggested for each dance. Dances are held monthly on the second Friday of the month. The next dance will be held at Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave., from 7 to 10 p.m. on July 10.

• Adult doubles tennis

Area tennis players are invited to join the adult doubles tennis program, held Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

The program's doubles format scores each participant as an individual player, allowing each person to move up or down in the standings each week based on their performance.  Players must be 16 years of age or older to participate. Participants under 18 are welcome but must have a parent or legal guardian complete the electronic waiver.

Registration is $75 per player, with Sandpoint Tennis Association members receiving a $45 discount. A $5 non-resident fee applies to participants who live outside Sandpoint city limits. Be sure to renew or apply for your 2026 STA membership before registering, as members will receive a promo code to claim their discount during registration. For STA membership information, contact Tiffany at 316-285-4144.

• Youth tennis lessons

P&R tennis lessons are in one-week sessions and most run for an hour on Mondays through Aug. 28. The registration deadline is the Thursday prior to class start date.

Lessons are available to youth between 4 to 12 years old and take place indoors at the James E. Russell Sports Center, 2016 Pine St. The cost is $45 per session with an additional $5 non-resident fee.

Youth scholarships are available upon request. Information on the scholarship program can be found by clicking on the appropriate box during program registration to express need.

• High school tennis camp

The Sandpoint Tennis Camp was developed to provide players who are 14 years old and above a chance to improve their skills.

Camp will take place at the outdoor Travers Park tennis courts, July 13 to 17 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily. Register by June 29 to get a T-Shirt. No T-Shirt registration is open until July 9.

The cost is $ 150 with an additional $5 fee for non-residents.

• Sandpoint Historic Walking Tour

The Sandpoint Historic Walking Tour events are the combined efforts of Sandpoint Parks and Rec, the city of Sandpoint's Arts, Culture and Historic Preservation Commission and tour volunteers.

Tours are free and registration is not required.

Tours begin at 10 a.m., beginning in front of MickDuff’s Brewing Company, 419 N. Second Ave. Tours will be held June 28, July 24, July 26, Aug. 28, Aug. 30, Sept. 28, and Sept. 30.

 • Open junior sailing

The informal sailing sessions are aimed at youth between the ages of 10 and 18. They are designed to give young sailors a chance to get out on the lake every week, all summer long. A U.S. sailing certified instructor, along with several SSA volunteers, will be on hand to supervise and offer tips and tricks.

Sandpoint Parks and Rec staff recommend completing one of the department's sailing camps prior to joining the open junior sailing program; however, it is not required.

Participants meet on Fred’s Deck at the Sandpoint Windbag Marina on Tuesdays through Aug. 27. The program takes from 9 a.m. to noon.

The fee is $365 with an additional $5 fee for non-city residents.

• Vintage military rifle shoot

Community members are invited to join the city's range masters for a vintage military rifle shoot at the Outdoor Shooting Range, 113 Turtle Rock Road. The shoot will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 18.

Vintage is defined as military rifles from any country, made between 1903 and 1958. Standard range fees apply.
