Community members are invited to lend a hand during the West Fork Cabin community cleanup on Saturday, June 27. Organized by Friends of Boundary County Historic Places, the annual workday helps maintain the historic backcountry cabin and surrounding area for future visitors.

Volunteers will assist with a variety of projects, including carrying supplies to the cabin, packing out trash, washing walls, making minor repairs, and cleaning the fire pit. Organizers say no special skills are needed, and everyone is welcome to participate.

Participants should meet at 8:30 a.m. at Three Mile to carpool or can drive to the trailhead on their own, planning to arrive at around 9:30 a.m. The cabin is located near the edge of a meadow in a natural research area along the West Fork of Smith Creek Road. Reaching the site requires a hike of just under 1.5 miles through old growth forest.

Those planning to attend are encouraged to bring water, lunch, mosquito repellent, and wear sturdy shoes or boots. Long pants are also recommended.
