SANDPOINT — Leadership Sandpoint has donated $10,505.45 to the Bonner County Historical Society and Museum.
Presented Tuesday, June 23, the donation represents the net proceeds from the Class of 2025-27's fundraising project. Museum officials said the donation will allow proper storage and identification of museum artifacts, extending the lifespan of these artifacts far into the future.
The museum was selected from a pool of 11 applicants as the nonprofit organization to move forward with the Leadership Sandpoint Class of 2026 fundraising project, Greater Sandpoint Chamber executive director Joan Urbaniak said.
The museum currently has about 14,000 items in its “object” collection that need to be carefully preserved to ensure longevity and prevent damage to the artifacts, museum officials said. Providing funding to enable proper storage and identification will help ensure that the lifespan of these artifacts will extend far into the future.
Leadership Sandpoint is a Greater Sandpoint Chamber-sponsored program that provides an opportunity for participants to hone their leadership skills through educational sessions and activities in a group setting that nurtures free thinking, idea-sharing, and problem solving.
Program participants develop their skills as leaders as well as increase their knowledge of the community and explore their role in contributing to community affairs, chamber officials said. The program typically meets one day per month in working sessions. During sessions, students explore a variety of political issues, history, human services, health, spirituality, natural services and a host of other topics that are important to Bonner County. During the first year, the class is tasked with planning and implementing a community project such as the Class of 2025-27’s fundraising for the museum.
In the second year, participants take the knowledge they’ve learned, including helping the next year’s class. This process allows students to continue to build their network with their classmates and the community while also demonstrating their new leadership skills.
