Cole Pace went the distance and drove in a run at the plate for the Great Falls Chargers in a 5-3 win over the Kalispell AA Lakers in the first game of a Thursday Legion baseball doubleheader at Griffin Field.

Pace allowed three runs on three hits over the seven innings after weather earlier Thursday delayed the start by an hour. He walked five. At the plate, Pace went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in the third inning that gave Great Falls a 1-0 lead.

The Chargers (14-1) added three more runs in the sixth thanks in part to a single from Jace Komac that made it 4-0.

Kalispell (7-9) found its offensive rhythm in the bottom of the sixth, as two walks set up Micah Engle for a two-run double to center that cut the lead in half.

Great Falls added one in the seventh before Wyatt Asher — pinch-running for Brady Buckmaster — came in on an RBI groundout from Lincoln Fisher.

Hunter Fann drew a walk to bring up Liam Rech as the tying run, but the Rech flied out to left to end the game.

Eli Coopman fanned eight over 5 1-3 innings on the bump for the AA Lakers, allowing three runs on a pair of hits. George Schwan added 1 2-3 innings of relief, giving up two runs on three hits.

Jace Komac hit a two-run homer in the seventh and the Great Falls Chargers completed the doubleheader sweep late Thursday.

Komac’s deep ball came in the seventh as the Chargers already held a 2-0 lead.

Great Falls took the lead in the fourth with an error helping Carson Hollern score before Chase Little doubled the advantage with an RBI single.

Max Schara gave Kalispell 6 1-3 innings on the mound allowing three runs on two hits. He fanned four.

Gavin Gray pitched for the Chargers, going the distance and allowing 4 hits and no runs.
