LIBBY — Mission Valley and Libby both got wins on a rainy Friday afternoon at the Big Bucks Legion baseball tournament at Lee Gehrig Field.

The Mariners nabbed a 9-1 victory over Sasquatch 17u thanks to a six-run fifth inning. Cody Haggard had a pair of doubles for Mission Valley.

Libby rebounded from a Thursday evening loss to Moscow with a 5-4 victory over the Flathead A’s. Boe Miles squeezed home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to give the Loggers a walk-off win.

Elsewhere Friday, the Moscow Blue Devils downed Flathead 11-1 to move to 2-0 in the tournament while Central Alberta and Wenatchee Valley met in the nightcap with the Washington side winning 7-5.

Mariners 9, Sasquatch 1

Holden Emerson put Mission Valley ahead in the first inning with an RBI double to right.

After Sasquatch — out of Sandpoint, Idaho — tied the game in the top of the third, an RBI groundout restored the Mission Valley (6-6) lead and the Mariners never looked back.

With one out in the fifth, Cole Wadsworth lined a single into left to score one run, another two came in on a lineout and a hit batsman to make it 5-1. Paxson DuMont then added a run on a single to right before Hunter Luedtke’s two-RBI double capped off the six-run frame.

Wadsworth tossed six innings, allowing one run on three hits. He fanned seven batters.

Loggers 5, A’s 4

Flathead took a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning as two runs came in on an error before Gavin Knapp singled to left to finish off the inning.

Libby (6-9) quickly answered using three bases-loaded walks to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. Kale Riddle put the Loggers ahead with a single to short that scored Jack Nagle.

Jaxson Cadwell tied the game back up with a single in the sixth that brought home Wyatt Hanchett.

Nagle opened the seventh with a single and Libby used small ball to work him around the bases as Hall provided the winning squeeze.

Riddle three one scoreless inning after Dalton Cannon provided six innings on the bump for Libby.

Tayvin Beach tossed four innings for Flathead and Easton Corbett went two plus innings.

Flathead battles Mission Valley Saturday at 9 a.m., while Libby faces Central Alberta at 6 p.m.
