Loggers down Central Alberta at home tourney

LIBBY — Bransen Holzer and Dalton Cannon drove in two runs each as the Libby Loggers defeated the Central Alberta Wolves at the Big Bucks Tournament Saturday at Lee Gehrig Field. 


Keenan Feenstra hit a two-run homer for the Wolves to hand Mission Valley a 10-4 defeat. The Mariners were back in action later in the day against Wenatchee Valley, but the game was not completed by press time. 


The Wolves fell 12-2 against the Sandpoint Sasquatch in their third game of the day. The Sasquatch also defeated the Flathead A’s 4-0 Saturday. Wenatchee Valley defeated Moscow in the other game played, 11-1. 


Loggers 9, Wolves 4


Holzer’s first-inning RBI single gave the Loggers an early lead. Cannon and Mason Crow added two more runs later in the inning as Libby jumped ahead 5-0. 


Tristan Formos drove in a run on a single to right as the Wolves closed the gap to 5-4 in the second inning.  


Libby quickly responded with two more runs in the bottom of the second and never looked back. 


Cannon and Jack Nagle added insurance runs late to put the Loggers up 9-4. 


Five Loggers pitchers contributed on the bump, with Boe Miles, Tanner Wolf and Hunter Rooney tossing a scoreless frame. 


Wolves 10, Mariners 4


A two-run single from Grady Moore helped the Wolves put up five runs in the first inning to take control of the game. 


Paxson DuMont brought in Cody Haggard on a groundout to make it a 5-2 game. 


Central Alberta then extended the advantage to 10-2 on Feenstra’s two-run homer in the fifth. 


Mission Valley got two more runs in the sixth but couldn’t find a rally. 


Kale Patayanikorn-Fithen went the distance on the bump for the Wolves, allowing five hits and fanning four. 


Rain washes out A Lakers


Both games of Saturday's doubleheader between the Kalispell A Lakers and Cranbrook Bandits were canceled because of weather. The A Lakers look to their next doubleheader on the road Sunday against the Bitterroot Red Sox at 1 p.m.
