KELLOGG — The city of Kellogg is making America’s 250th birthday a celebration centered on families with its upcoming Fourth of July festivities.

Kellogg Deputy Treasurer Kattie Ross has assembled a full lineup of free, family-friendly events designed to keep residents and visitors entertained throughout the holiday.

Ross secured an America250 grant through the Idaho Advisory Council, along with sponsorships from local businesses, including Dave Smith Motors, to help cover the costs associated with the celebration.

"We wanted to make the celebration as kid and family-friendly as possible," Ross said. "We also wanted to make sure that anyone who wanted to be a part of the celebration had the opportunity."

The celebration will begin Saturday morning with the annual Firecracker 5K at 8 a.m. The race starts from the Kellogg Pool parking lot and is free and open to participants of all ages. Patriotic costumes are encouraged.

Festivities will continue throughout the day at Kellogg City Park, where vendors open at 11 a.m. A community pool party will begin at the same time at the Kellogg Pool, while registration for the annual horseshoe tournament also opens at 11 a.m. Tournament play starts at noon.

The park will also feature family-friendly attractions, including a bounce house and petting zoo.

Families are encouraged to bring their bicycles and patriotic spirit for the Kids Bike Parade, which departs from Silver Mountain at 1:15 p.m. The community’s traditional Fourth of July Parade follows at 2 p.m., with participants lining up at 1 p.m. at Main Street and Silver Street in uptown Kellogg.

As evening approaches, the celebration will shift back to Kellogg City Park for a free outdoor movie night. Community members are invited to gather at the baseball field behind the Odd Fellows Pavilion for a screening of "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie."

The movie is scheduled to begin at approximately 9 p.m., giving families an opportunity to relax under the stars and enjoy an evening of adventure, laughter and fun.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, snacks and beverages. Organizers also ask guests to help keep the park clean by properly disposing of trash before leaving.

The day will conclude with the annual fireworks display at 10 p.m. at Silver Mountain, providing a festive finale to Kellogg’s Independence Day celebration.

"We have plenty of activities lined up because we wanted to make it big for America's 250th anniversary,” Ross said.
