Glory S. Carlile, 75
Shoshone News-Press | UPDATED 1 day, 18 hours AGO
Glory S. Carlile was born Oct. 10, 1950, in Houston, Texas. She passed quickly, quietly and peacefully the evening of May 16, 2026, with her husband, Fred Orth, at her side in Kellogg, Idaho, at Shoshone Medical Center.
A private person, she’d greet you with a smile and hello but didn’t share much of her 8-year fight against illness and dialysis. To really know her, you knew she loved to laugh, to dance; you knew an artist, a poet, someone with a great sense of humor, very witty and blunt, a love for her family and friends, nature, animals, the written word, travel and long drives.
Adopted at a young age by Maryanne & William Kelley, she completed their family and became the oldest of their five children. A few years later, both widows with five children, Maryanne and Thomas Lieb blended their families and were miraculously blessed with three more children, making her fourth of 13 children.
She lived most of her life in San Diego, Calif. She attended Our Lady of Grace until transferring to Grossmont High School, where she was a straight-A student and cheerleader. She graduated in 1968, then enrolled at SDSU as an English major. She continued her formal education and social service accreditations while raising her family. She had a long work history at SD Youth & Community Services. And always the volunteer! She also made time for friends, volleyball at Grape Street Park, camping and traveling.
She found the Silver Valley in the early '90s, looking for property in Montana. She fell in love with the mountains, trees and the area, making Osburn and then Kellogg, Idaho, her new home. She met her husband, Fred Orth, during one of their favorite pastimes, breakfast out! They were blessed with 13 years of marriage and 18 years of friendship. They laughed every day (one of their vows) and enjoyed the birds and animals that visited her roses and Fred’s yard.
While in Idaho, she worked for the Reiki Alliance, Habitat for Humanity and The Commission Basin before retiring. And always the volunteer! During her time with the Reiki Alliance, she was able to continue her love of travel. Some of her favorite destinations were Amsterdam, Germany, Denmark, France and Chile! She even returned to Texas. She took a wonderful trip to Africa as well. Her favorite trips, though, were long car rides and road trips with her husband, children and grandchildren! A car full of laughter! Her greatest wish was to meet and know her great-grandson. That wish was granted for nearly a year!
Glory is survived by her husband, Fred Orth (Kellogg, Idaho); her children, Terri Carlile (Coeur d’Alene, Idaho), Kenny Carlile, Jr. (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Michael Luma (Tucson, Ariz.); grandchildren, Macie and Zac Smith (Greenacres, Wash.), Jasmine Luma (Post Falls, Idaho); great-grandson Beckham Smith; extended local family Angela Luma; Chad, Rachel, EJ and Ember Meyer. Her siblings, Gina Lieb, Bridget (Steve) Swanson, Pat Kelley, Anne (Ed) Kearns, Pete (Annette) Lieb, TC (Donna) Lieb, Simone Malboeuf, Nancy Kosinski, Joan Lieb, Rick Lieb; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Willy Kelley and sister Susan Lieb.
A remembrance and celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 11, 2026, at The Beanery starting at 1 p.m. Friends are invited to join the family. There will be food, drinks and games in her honor.
She will have a resting place at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg, Idaho.
A celebration of life and scattering of ashes will be held in San Diego, Calif., on Aug. 22, 2026.
