Our Spotlight on the Arts Student is Matea Keefe, a 9th-grade student at Thompson Falls High School. She has enjoyed learning a new medium introduced by her art teacher, Mr. Micah Grossberg.

This process involves three techniques: hatching, cross-hatching, and stippling (using dots to make art). Hatching uses single lines, spaced closer or further apart, to create definition. Cross-hatching involves intersecting lines to create shading.

This is something new Matea has been trying and enjoying very much. She credits her grandma with giving her encouragement a few years ago after seeing some sketching in her sketchbook.

When asked what she would say to young children interested in any type of art, Matea said, “If they like it; continue working hard at it.” Matea also shared that art helps calm her down and gives her time to think.

We wish Matea all the best going forward, and we know her passion for art will benefit her in many ways.
