Heather Lynn Matthews, 51, born May 12, 1974, passed away on Feb. 6, 2026. In her final days, Heather was held in the presence of those who loved her most.

She is survived by her mother, Susan Steinberg; her stepfather, Mitch Steinberg; and her brother, Harold Matthews; her partner, Brian Totten; and her beloved dog, Siyeh. She was preceded in death by her father, Matt Matthews.

Heather earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Montana and a master’s degree in nutrition from the National College of Natural Medicine. In 2015, she purchased the Northern Lights Saloon and ran it for nearly a decade, continuing its legacy as a place where people gathered and connected. She carried many titles and successes in business, but they never defined the fullness of who she was.

Heather lived her life in motion. From motocross as a young girl to snowboarding, skiing, rock climbing, scuba diving, and whitewater rafting, she sought out experiences that made her feel alive. She loved to travel and was never one to pass up a chance to soak in some magical hot springs.

Her joy was contagious, and she brought a sense of celebration wherever she went. The light she brought into the world will continue on in the lives of those who knew and loved her.

Heather’s celebration of life will be held on Aug. 7 in Polebridge. 20 Grand will be playing that night, and in true Heather fashion, all who loved her are invited to dance the night away in her honor.
