FALSE ALARM
“Informed sources” in area taverns have told of plans by “someone” for a power plant “somewhere” in the area. Before you write your congressman, clean your rifle and have the kids dig trenches, the story is a false alarm. The rumor likely started with a study requested by the Public Power Council. In the first step of the study, the Pend Oreille River from Sandpoint to Cusick and the Priest Lake area were identified as areas that could physically contain a thermal nuclear or fossil fuel power plant, triggering speculation about construction of such a plant. Step 2, however, eliminated both areas from the study.
