MØDE Prep gears up for GrindSession nationals with pair of wins

MØDE Prep boys basketball of Liberty Lake defeated Watts Academy 93-92 last Saturday and Elite Prep 101-78 last Sunday,
Watts Academy, coached by Seattle and University of Washington legend Donald Watts, kept the game close with its 3-point shooting, led by senior Balin Meza who connected on 8 of 12 from downtown.
MØDE's inside players, Bodo Konan and Alassane Doucoure, both recorded double-doubles. Collin Simon, a sophomore from Coeur d’Alene, connected on 5 of 8 from the field and finished with 16 points. Zuby Toms led MØDE with 27 points.
The following day, MØDE took on Elite Prep's post-grad team in a game at the Rainier Community Center. MØDE held a one-point lead at halftime but turned up the backcourt pressure in the second half to pull away.
Toms led the way with 34 points, and Doucoure blocked eight shots and grabbed 17 rebounds to go along with 16 points. Vuk Zelic chipped in 16 points and nine rebounds.
MØDE, a first-year program, used Sunday's game to recognize its graduating seniors, Beau Hansen and Rayan Elghaly.
Next up for MØDE (16-16) is nationals this week in Bowling Green, Ky. MØDE will play its first-round game Friday at 4 p.m. PST vs. Legacy School of Sports Science from Spring, Texas. If they win, they'll play Saturday at 9 a.m. PST vs. Colorado Prep. MØDE lost to Colorado Prep earlier this season 84-72.
