Kalispell artist and art teacher Sunnie LeBlanc’s exhibition, The Wild Brush — A Retrospective Exhibit, will be featured at Phillips Gallery this month with a reception on March 6.

Having downsized her Bigfork studio and residence, LeBlanc has curated a selection of oil paintings from her personal collection to feature in the exhibit. For LeBlanc, painting serves as a secret language and preferred narrative method. One of the signature elements of her paintings is the inclusion of a rabbit. The rabbits are hidden, inviting viewers to look closely at each piece to find its location.

“The secret bunnies have such ‘tails’ to tell,” she said.

When not painting, LeBlanc is a docent at the Glacier Art Museum in Kalispell. She is also a member of the Whitefish Art and Cultural Club and has led discussions of American artists including Charlie Russell, Winslow Homer and John Singer Sargent. In July, LeBlanc will lead a discussion of the art and life of Frederic Remington.

The public is invited to meet the artist at the opening reception, which is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. at the gallery located at the Kalispell Center Mall, 20 N. Main St., Kalispell.
