Western A: Browning, C-Falls win loser-outs

HAMILTON — Kendee Ollinger-CalfBossRibs and Josephine Michael scored 15 points each and Browning overcame a slow start to down Corvallis in a girls loser-out matchup Friday at the Western A divisional.

The Lady Indians used a 15-8 advantage in the final frame to close out the 48-43 victory. 

In the second loser-out game of the early afternoon Columbia Falls dominated the fourth quarter to defeat Hamilton 42-27. 


Browning 48, Corvallis 43 

Michael had six points in the final quarter as Ollinger-CalfBossRibs tallied five as Browning turned around a 35-33 deficit. 

Ella Varner led the way for the Blue Devils with 19 points, Kate Allen added 15. Corvallis jumped ahead 10-4 after one quarter. 

The Lady Indians (11-11) move to Saturday morning’s loser-out round against the loser of Friday’s second semifinal between Bigfork and Frenchtown at 10:30 a.m. at Hamilton High School. 

The Blue Devils finish the season 8-12.

Columbia Falls 42, Hamilton 27 

The Wildkats took a 23-22 lead into the fourth quarter in a low-scoring affair and then took off running.  

After Hamilton tied the game at 24, Columbia Falls scored the next 18 points to secure the victory and its spot in Saturday morning’s crucial loser-out games with a state berth on the line. 

Peyton Ross and Rylee Sweeney each scored five points in the quarter. Ross led the Wildkats with 13 points, Sweeney had 11. 

Taryn Hochhalter scored 10 to lead Hamilton. 

The Wildkats (10-10) plays Whitefish at 10:30 a.m. at Hamilton Middle School. The winner gets to next week's State A tournament in Great Falls.

Hamilton finishes the season 8-13.
