Mitchell status uncertain as Vandals open Big Sky tourney play
Idaho point guard Kolton Mitchell, a redshirt sophomore from Lake City High, missed the Vandals’ last three regular-season games with a back injury suffered on Idaho’s recent road trip to Portland State and Sacramento State.
Seventh-seeded Idaho (17-14) faces eighth seed Sacramento State (10-20) tonight at 7 p.m. PST in the first round of the Big Sky Conference men’s basketball tournament at Idaho Central Arena in Boise.
Vandals coach Alex Pribble has not announced Mitchell’s status for the tourney, but "there was hope he would be back,” according to an Idaho athletic department spokesperson.
Mitchell, in his second season with the Vandals, started the first 28 games, and is averaging 13.6 points and 4.0 assists per game.
The Idaho-Sac State winner plays second seed Montana State on Sunday at 7 p.m. PST.
The championship game is Wednesday night.
