Scott Gilbert Russell, 71, passed away at home on March 1, 2026.

He was born on March 11, 1954, in Fukuoka, Japan, to Willis Gilbert Russell and Marion June (Phelps) Russell. Growing up in a military family, he moved often and formed lifelong friendships wherever he went. In high school, Scott was well known and well liked. He enjoyed baseball and basketball and excelled in football. He had many friends, was outgoing and popular, and was always there when someone needed him.

Scott had a strong work ethic and was known for being dependable and hardworking. He worked as a logger before beginning a long career as a mineral driller with Boart Longyear. His work took him many places, but he always made the most of his time off, often in the outdoors with his son.

An avid outdoorsman, he also enjoyed gardening — vegetable and floral, listening to music and cheering on his favorite teams — the Mariners and the Sea "chickens."

On July 10, 1976, Scott married Cynthia "Cindy" Vey Pearce in Heron, Montana. Together, they raised two children and made their home in Noxon before later settling in Kalispell. In later years, he found companionship with Monica Hanson, with whom he shared time hunting, fishing, watching NASCAR and enjoying life.

Scott is survived by his daughter, Scarla, and her children, Taryn, Maggie and Sierra and great-grandson, Remington; his son, Ronnie (Jen) and grandchildren, Jayden (Mason) and Tanner and his brother, Brian (Valerie), along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his companion, his brother, Donald and his sister, Vicki.

Scott will be remembered for his love of the outdoors and his loyalty to his friends and family,

A scattering of ashes will be held at Spotted Bear Ranger Station at 1 p.m. on May 23, followed by a celebration of life at 2 p.m. on May 25 at his home in Kalispell. All are welcome to attend.
