Gabor pleads guilty to abuse, kidnapping

SANDPOINT — A Bonner County man accused of the severe abuse and neglect of a child pleaded guilty Tuesday to the charges during a change of plea hearing.
To avoid a jury trial, Jordan Everette Gabor, 29, made the plea March 10, where he admitted guilt of felony charges of injury to child and second-degree kidnapping. The plea was part of a pretrial settlement agreement, where two charges of lewd conduct with a minor, first-degree kidnapping and battery/domestic violence were removed from the amended charging documents.
The pretrial settlement is part of a Rule 11 “binding” agreement, where both parties agree on what Gabor’s sentencing should be, in which the court can bind itself to the suggested sentence when determining an appropriate sentence.
As a result of the agreement, Gabor is expected to be sentenced to serve ten years in prison for injury to child and 25 years in prison for second-degree kidnapping, the maximum for each crime. The sentences are expected to run concurrently with each other. Judge Lamont Berecz indicated that he would likely bind himself to the Rule 11 agreement but wanted to examine a pre-sentencing investigation before committing himself to the deal.
During the change of plea hearing, Gabor admitted guilt of the two crimes, but offered a vague response when Berecz asked him to explain why he was guilty. Gabor indicated that he permitted the abuse to happen to the victim — severe injuries to his head, hands, feet and genitals, along with bite marks — but that evidence “would make it believe that” he “wasn’t the one who caused the injuries.”
In further questioning, Gabor asked Berecz to accept his guilty plea on both charges.
He is expected to appear in court May 19 for sentencing.
Documents indicate the abuse occurred on or about April 23, 2025.
Gabor was arrested April 26 for the crimes in Ogallala Neb., before being extradited back to Bonner County to face the charges.
According to a criminal complaint, Gabor allegedly slammed a car door on the victim’s head, in addition to striking him numerous times with closed fists. Documents indicate that Gabor willfully caused the child to suffer unjustifiable pain.
In a sentencing hearing for Taleea Martin, it was noted that Gabor appeared to be the main aggressor of the abuse. Due to the highly sensitive nature of the case, more documents on both cases are sealed.
Anyone who suspects abuse should call the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office at 208-263-8417 or the Idaho Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-669-3176. The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is also available for suspected child maltreatment at 800-926-2588.
