Phillip James Potts, 95, passed away peacefully at home with loved ones March 6, 2026, in Spirit Lake, Idaho.
Phillip was born Feb. 16, 1931, in Aurora, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents, his 14 siblings, and his two loving daughters, Cindy DuPuis and Joan Potts-Noriega (Jack).
In June of 1958, Phillip married the love of his life, Shirley Potts (Cole). Together, they built a life devoted to family, strong values and hard work. Phillip worked as a heavy machinery mechanic, a career that took the family to many places across the country. He was a proud lifelong member of the Operating Engineers and was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his craft.
Phillip had a natural talent for working with his hands. Whether building, tinkering or fixing something that seemed beyond repair, he enjoyed solving problems. Family and friends often relied on his skills, knowing that if something was broken, Phillip could likely fix it.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; his children: Mary Maldonado (Louis), James Potts (Julie), Karen Potts and John Potts (Stacy); along with 22 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Hospice of North Idaho for the kindness, compassion and respect shown to Phillip during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spirit Lake, Idaho, in Phillip’s memory.
Services will be held Friday, March 13, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church (32919 Highway 41, Spirit Lake, ID 83869), viewing: 9:30 a.m.-10 a.m.; rosary: 10 a.m.; funeral mass: 11 a.m., and burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery (5579 W. Vermont St., Spirit Lake, ID 83869).
